What is a “Report of Inspection - Customer Defect”?
Endeavour Energy uses this notice when a privately maintained electrical asset is found to be unsafe. Its public guidance says the report explains the defect, what is required to rectify it and the timeframe for completion.Endeavour Energy: Poles, wires and easements
The notice can relate to a damaged, rusting or rotting private pole, vegetation encroaching on service mains, damage to consumer mains or another private-asset condition. The first step is to retain the full report and identify the affected asset, deadline, reference and current supply status.
Direct answer: Do not rely on a generic online statement that every Endeavour notice has the same deadline. Use the timeframe printed on your report and contact Endeavour Energy on 131 003 if the notice or risk is unclear.
What if there is an immediate hazard?
If a powerline is fallen or damaged, Endeavour Energy says to stay at least eight metres away, warn others and call 131 003 immediately. Never assume a line is dead because it can be remotely re-energised.Endeavour Energy: Poles, wires and easements
For fire, shock, sparking, exposed live equipment or another life-threatening danger, keep people clear and call Triple Zero. Do not approach the asset to read a label or take a closer photograph.
| Situation | Appropriate first action |
|---|---|
| Fallen or damaged line | Stay at least eight metres clear and call Endeavour Energy on 131 003 |
| Fire or life-threatening danger | Call Triple Zero and the network emergency line |
| Supply has already been disconnected | Treat the inspection and reconnection pathway as priority work |
| No active hazard | Preserve the report and arrange licensed review before the stated deadline |
Which assets are the customer's responsibility?
Endeavour Energy states that it maintains its network up to the point of supply and that customers are responsible for maintaining privately owned assets. The page identifies private poles, overhead lines, underground cables, crossarms and related equipment as examples and recommends qualified inspection and maintenance.Endeavour Energy: Poles, wires and easements
The physical location alone does not settle the legal or technical boundary. The provider should confirm the point of supply, ownership, the defect item and any distributor-specific requirement before pricing replacement work.
When is a Level 2 ASP required?
Endeavour Energy says electrical work must be performed by a licensed electrician. Where the defect repair requires disconnection at the point of supply, the electrician must also be a Level 2 Accredited Service Provider.Endeavour Energy: Poles, wires and easements
NSW defines Level 2 contestable work as constructing or changing service lines between the distribution network and point of connection, energising new or altered connections and working on certain network devices at the main switchboard.NSW Government: ASP Scheme
This is why a private pole, overhead service, underground service, damaged consumer mains or point-of-supply isolation often needs an ASP2 review. A vegetation contractor or licensed electrical contractor may also be required where the work is outside the ASP2 scope.
What does Endeavour Energy say about quotes?
Its current public page instructs recipients to obtain three quotes and says the work must be completed by a licensed electrician. The NSW Government likewise recommends written quotes and checking the ASP's accreditation level or class through the official provider list.NSW Government: Altering supply
Compare more than the total. Ask each provider to separate the electrical scope, ASP2/network scope, civil restoration, access equipment, traffic control, planned outage, inspections, paperwork and assumptions. Confirm who will communicate with Endeavour Energy and what proof will close the notice.
Could financial assistance be available?
Endeavour Energy's private-assets page says a customer who has received its defect notice may be eligible for a Customer Owned Asset Assistance Loan and that the network can help determine eligibility. The page describes the support as an affordable interest-free repayment plan for eligible customers facing urgent private-asset repair costs.Endeavour Energy: Poles, wires and easements
Eligibility, terms and availability must be confirmed directly with Endeavour Energy. Cable Co does not determine eligibility and the diagnostic does not present the assistance as guaranteed.
What should be ready for a scope review?
Prepare every page of the report, the customer defect reference, notice and due dates, safe wide and close-up photos, the address and property type, access restrictions, supply status, known underground route, surface restoration and any strata or shared-asset approval contact.
For a private pole, include safe views of the full pole, base, pole-top fittings and service route without touching the pole or entering unsafe clearances. For vegetation, describe the location and contact a qualified vegetation provider rather than attempting clearance near live conductors.
Use the free Level 2 Defect Notice Diagnostic to build an evidence and rectification brief. The result is an automated planning screen, not an inspection, network clearance, compliance certificate or fixed quotation.
What determines the indicative cost range?
Private-pole type and condition, overhead or underground route, access height, excavation, surface reinstatement, isolation/reconnection, traffic control, switchboard integration, multiple defect items and outage coordination are key drivers. An unclear notice should produce a request for evidence rather than a falsely precise number.
Start the diagnostic or request a Level 2 scope review.
