The Three-Phase Question
No — you do not need three-phase power for a home EV charger. This is the most persistent myth in the market.
A 7kW single-phase charger adds approximately 40–45km of range per hour of charging. The ABS reports the average Australian drives 36km per day. That means a single overnight charge (even starting at 11pm on an off-peak tariff) fully replenishes daily driving with capacity to spare.
Three-phase only makes sense if you want 22kW charging speed (full charge in 2–3 hours) or your existing single-phase supply is already at capacity from ducted air conditioning, pool pumps, and electric hot water running simultaneously.
